VMworld 2015 – Session Voting Now Open!

Planning is in full swing for what will be the 12th Annual VMworld Conference, which will be held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco and the Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, Spain.

This is by far one of the largest tech industry conferences with typically over 20k attendees and pretty much every vendor under the sun in attendance. It basically means that you don’t want to be left out, so make sure you pre-register to get an amazingly low price.

What this also means is that session voting is now open, and I need your help! I’m planning on running three awesome Ask the Experts sessions this year, and the names on these panels are sure to cause some excitement.  But, the only way we can be guaranteed a spot on the agenda is if we get the votes and support from the community.

So, what do these sessions look like?

4593 – Ask the Expert vBloggers
Duncan Epping (VMware), Scott Lowe (VMware), Chad Sakac (EMC) and Chris Wahl.

4594 – Ask the Expert VCDXs
Joe Clarke (AdvizeX), Matt Cowger (EMC), Jason Nash (Varrow) and Chris Wahl.

4595 – Ask the Expert Industry Titans
Kit Colbert (VMware), Chad Sakac (EMC), Vaughn Stewart (Pure) and Nicholas Weaver (Intel).

I’m super excited to see all three of these sessions come to life, historically we’ve had a lot of fun with the Ask the Experts series and I want to continue the tradition in 2015.

So please, vote early and vote often! :)   Click here to vote!

Need help voting? Check out this video to see how easy it is!

VMworld 2013 – Ask the Experts Panel Sessions

Wow…another year, and another VMworld coming up.  I can’t believe how fast time goes by, and how fast things evolve in the tech industry. I know it’s cliche to say that this will be the most exciting VMworld, because I say that every year, but honestly every year brings something new and this year is going to be no different.

Lots of changes happening to VMware, specifically around the reorganization of people and products. It finally looks like VMware has a clear cut focus, Datacenter Virtualization (Cloud/SDDC) and End-User Computing. Pivotal was formed to take 100% of the Next-Gen Application space and other products (ie: Zimbra) were sold off. VMware can now focus 100% on what they’re good at. I think we have to thank Pat Gelsinger for the disruptive yet extremely good changes VMware has gone through the past year.

So, enough blabbing, why are we really here? Well, I’ll post a full informative VMworld post in the next few days or so which will detail out my schedule and what sessions I think  people should be checking out.  This post is to remind people of two great sessions that I’ll be running at VMworld.

Ask the Experts is a highly successful session that I’ve ran for the past 6 years and this year it’s only going to get better! I’ve broken it out into two separate sessions, one hosted by expert vBloggers and another hosted by VMware Certified Design Experts (VCDX). Don’t let the titles fool you, these sessions aren’t about asking how to get into blogging, or how to obtain your VCDX (although, those are both valid questions). These sessions are for you, the audience, to ask any question your heart desires around any VMware focused topic. Why isn’t this working? How should I architect my vCloud landscape? What type of storage layout should I use for VDI?

With that said, the success of these sessions are strictly dependent on YOUR participation. So, please register for VSVC4569 – Ask the Expert vBloggers and VSVC4570 – Ask the Expert VCDX’s, attend the session and get vocal! Ask some questions!  If you’re a little shy, or perhaps not attending VMworld San Francisco you can also submit your question prior and if there is time we’ll get to it on stage live at VMworld! So please, if you do have a question feel free to submit a questionnaire with one of the links presented below. If you’re attending VMworld SF I hope to see you there, if you’re not extend a hello to me on Twitter! (@rick_vmwaretips)

VMworld 2012 Session Voting

As many of you know I’m currently on my honeymoon and I certainly shouldn’t be blogging, but this is too important to pass up! VMworld 2012 Session Voting is now open and I could use all of your help in getting my sessions approved for VMworld US and EMEA. That’s right people, I’ve submitted my sessions for both conferences and this would be the first time I’ve made it to VMworld Europe. So please, vote early and vote often :)

  • 1504 – Ask the Expert vBloggers – Scott Lowe, Duncan Epping, Rick Scherer, Frank Denneman, Chad Sakac
One of the highest rated sessions at VMworld is back for it’s fifth year! Come meet four VMware Certified Design Experts (VCDX) on stage answering your questions. We get the top Virtualization Bloggers in the industry and get them on stage answering your questions in a wide array of topics.
  • 1506 – Designing a  Geo-Clustered VMware View (VDI) Environment – Rick Scherer, Tyler Baker
Does your organization have multiple sites with a traveling workforce that may work in different locations? How does this put a damper on your VDI design and deployment? Wouldn’t it be nice to design a solution that can offer follow-me computing regardless of the location your employee is in?
In this session you’ll learn from a real life customer deployment on how to design a VDI environment that offers multi-site replication as well as load balancing which allows the employee to connect to the desktop in the datacenter closest to them which ensures the highest levels of performance and availability.
  • 1507 – Accelerate Your Journey to Your Cloud with Application Modernization – Rick Scherer
Truth be told, IT as a Service (ITaaS) is not the end of the Journey to Your Cloud. Although IT Automation and Orchestration is critical to a successful ITaaS deployment, you need to modernize your applications to make your business truly cloud ready.
Application mobility is going to be a critical piece to creating business agility, simply virtualizing your existing J2EE stack isn’t going to take you all the way, you must modernize your applications for mobility as well as in consideration for the influx of the massive amounts of Big Data our organizations can leverage.
  • 2715 – How to Ensure a Successful Cloud Implementation – Rick Scherer, Craig Chapman
There are a multitude of sessions that are addressing the technical needs of ensuring a successful cloud implementation. In this session the goal is to provide IT professionals strategies and methodologies to engage and service the business. By engaging the business IT professionals can gain an ally outside of IT in the implementation. With allies outside IT we gain valuable insight into the success of a cloud implementation.
  • 2790 – Ensuring Governance, Mitigating Risk while Maintaining Compliance in a Cloud Infrastructure – Rick Scherer
In this session you’ll learn how companies are deploying Cloud First models to Hybrid Cloud infrastructures while setting a solid GRC foundation.
Learn the steps require to deploy your applications securely to the Cloud, protect your data, virtualize more assets and reduce the amount of infrastructure needed by leveraging vSphere-aware security products.

Thanks for taking the time to vote, but please don’t stop once you’ve voted for my sessions. There are a number of other excellent sessions from people like Duncan Epping, Frank Denneman, Chad Sakac, Scott Lowe, Chris Colotti, Kendrick Coleman, Jeremiah Dooley, a number of them from the EMC vSpecialists as well as a few joint sessions between Chad Sakac (EMC) and Vaughn Stewart (NetApp) which shouldn’t be missed!

VMworld 2009 – Ask the Experts (TA2259) Recap

First of all, thank you to our excellent panel; Duncan Epping, Tom Howarth, Scott Lowe and Chad Sakac.

The response I’ve received from our attendees has been amazing.  It quite possibly was the best session at VMworld 2009!   Don’t worry, I’ll be pushing extra hard to get this session back for 2010!  Perhaps a Super Session?

Amongst the most valuable sessions at VMworld 2009 for me this year was the Ask the Experts sessions.
ProfessionalVMware.com

One thing that amazed me is how we basically closed VMworld,  our repeat session did not end until 6:15pm on Thursday – pretty much when the union A/V workers started unplugging equipment!

Chad Sakac so graciously posted both sessions in video format on his website, so instead of recapping the entire session (both of them) on here, go check out the videos on his website here.

So thats pretty much it, I had a great time at VMworld and finishing it with the Ask the Experts panel was great!  I’d love to have the other four panelists back next year and don’t forget to look for it on the 2010 schedule!

Also if you haven’t already, check out Duncan’s linkage list.  Tons of great links to VMworld 2009 feedback!
