NFS Datastores and what was their BIG issue…

This all started back about a year ago when I decided to move my datastores from Fibre Channel to NFS. The data was already on a NetApp FAS960c so I was enjoying thin provisioning and snapshots…but I wanted more!

VMworld 2008

I guess I should start writing about VMworld 2008 and my experiences. I really should have started this while I was there and fresh in my mind. Overall it was a decent show, some good sessions and tons of parties and social mixers to meet people that enjoy virtualization as much as I do.

Changing the IP of your NFS Datastore

I’ve ran into some issues today trying to change the IP address of my NFS Datastore. Our filer has a nice 10GbE interface that I’m not using, so my thought was to put my hosts into Maintenance Mode one at a time, remove the old datastore and connect the new one…which is essentially the same exact mount but going over a different interface. Boy was I wrong…

Changing VLAN of a Port Group

In the event you need to change the VLAN of any of your Port Groups here is some good instruction on doing just that. Remember, VLANs are configured at the Port Group level and not the vSwitch level. This allows you to trunk as many VLANs you need to your vSwitch’s then create dedicated Port Groups for each of those Virtual LANs.

Changing Service Console IP Address in ESX 3.5

Actually this is not that difficult, but remember you will require console access to the server. Be sure to put the machine in Maintenance Mode then Disconnect it from Virtual Center. Then connect to the console of the ESX host;
