NetApp, VMware and SQL TechTalk – Q&A Transcript

Most of you know that I was the featured guest on a Live TechTalk last week, NetApp has furnished me with the transcripts from the Q&A of the event – for those of you that submitted questions but were unable to get a response – the transcript below should have your answer.   I’m extremely excited to say that this transcript will only be available on VMwareTips.com and NetApp will even be sending the link to their customers, hopefully this will increase the traffic on the site.

If you have any additional questions in regards to the TechTalk event, please feel free to submit a comment to this post – or email me at rick (at) vmwaretips (dot) com.

Dear Rick,

San Diego VMware Users Group – May 15, 2009

I was asked to speak at the San Diego VMUG meeting this morning, the event had a really good turn out with close to 200 VMware fans!  My session had two major parts, first I discussed vSphere and all the new enchancements, features and names (oh the names) :)   I then talked a little on best practices for deploying mission/business critical applications on VMware, mostly covering on how a solid design is the most important piece of a Virtual Infrastructure, then on how you need to understand how CPU Co-Scheduling and Memory Sharing works – along with some examples on how to look for contention issues.

I’ve included my presentation for everyone to enjoy, I also suggest checking out the San Diego VMUG page on LinkedIn if you are in the Southern California area.  The PowerPoint version of this presentation can also be downloaded HERE.

You can expand the Flickr Show to full screen by clicking the “Full Screen” icon on the bottom right.

SAP Virtualization Week is About to Begin

Even though I will not be actively blogging about SAP Virtualization Week, I did want to share one post with a welcome video. Those those of you that did not know, SAP Virtualization Week is conveniently occurring the same week as the VMware vSphere launch.  I will be speaking at the SAP conference on Wednesday but wanted to check out a couple of the sessions on Monday and Tuesday.  This is not a traditional conference (like VMworld), this is all happening within a single room at the SAP Co-Innovation Lab in Palo Alto, it looks like there is room for about 125-150 visitors and each session will be occurring consecutively.

My session will be on Wednesday at 4:00pm PST, my topic will be on how The City of San Diego is utilizing virutalization for their SAP deployment.

Like I said, I will not be actively blogging, but be sure to check my Twitter updates as I post pictures and comments about SAP Virtualization Week 2009. #SAPVW
