VMworld 2015 – Session Voting Now Open!

Planning is in full swing for what will be the 12th Annual VMworld Conference, which will be held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco and the Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, Spain.

This is by far one of the largest tech industry conferences with typically over 20k attendees and pretty much every vendor under the sun in attendance. It basically means that you don’t want to be left out, so make sure you pre-register to get an amazingly low price.

What this also means is that session voting is now open, and I need your help! I’m planning on running three awesome Ask the Experts sessions this year, and the names on these panels are sure to cause some excitement.  But, the only way we can be guaranteed a spot on the agenda is if we get the votes and support from the community.

So, what do these sessions look like?

4593 – Ask the Expert vBloggers
Duncan Epping (VMware), Scott Lowe (VMware), Chad Sakac (EMC) and Chris Wahl.

4594 – Ask the Expert VCDXs
Joe Clarke (AdvizeX), Matt Cowger (EMC), Jason Nash (Varrow) and Chris Wahl.

4595 – Ask the Expert Industry Titans
Kit Colbert (VMware), Chad Sakac (EMC), Vaughn Stewart (Pure) and Nicholas Weaver (Intel).

I’m super excited to see all three of these sessions come to life, historically we’ve had a lot of fun with the Ask the Experts series and I want to continue the tradition in 2015.

So please, vote early and vote often! :)   Click here to vote!

Need help voting? Check out this video to see how easy it is!

Help steer what we do with EMC World

Things are in full swing for EMC World 2014.  The venue is paid for, sessions are selected and content being tweaked, and tons of other fun/exciting things are being worked on.  Now this is where you come in.

Chad Sakac recently blasted a post asking for your input on what we do with our Hands-On Lab experience at the conference.  Instead of re-writing what he’s already said, I’ll just include it here for your review.

There’s something really exciting we are doing for the first time this year and need your input to make it as valuable for YOU (EMCers, EMC Partners, Customers) as possible.

For the last three years, as any of you EMC World veterans will know, we have run very successful Hands-On Labs at the show.  As successful as the labs have been, we heard your feedback from last year. This year we are going to introduce Guided Labs as part of the overall Hands-On Labs experience.

So, what’s a guided vLab I hear you ask?  Well, you could look at it as being somewhere between your standard self-paced Hands-On lab and Instructor-Led Training.  Every attendee will get their own terminal with their very own lab but rather than just take the lab yourself without necessarily getting any context or having the ability to easily ask questions, there will be an instructor in the room providing that context, walking through the lab exercises with you and answering any questions you might have.  This is a really great opportunity for you to really get some time with the subject matter experts across our various products and solutions.

Of course the next question becomes: “how do we know what you would like to see as sessions in the guided labs?”

Here’s where we need your to help.  We’ve got a bunch of options already in the mix for these guided labs but need you to tell us which ones you want to see at the show.  Below is a link to a poll with 21 different labs we have come up with.  We would like you to take that poll and pick your top 5 preferences.  Based on your input, that’s what we will put in play at the show.  This survey is only going to be open for a week so get your mouse clicking and get voting!

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/6YQBCRT

(BTW – EMC World stuff is in full flight, including some off-the wall ideas)

Thanks for your input and I hope to see you in Las Vegas!

Kansas City VMUG – Tuesday, December 11th, 2012

It’s with great pleasure to let all of my readers know that I’ll be speaking at the Kansas City VMware Users Group on Tuesday, December 11th. It’s with even greater pleasure to announce that I’ll be sharing the same stage as Mr. Steve “Woz” Wozniak! (I have to present right after his keynote, how in the heck will I stay composed?!)

The VMUG will take place at the Overland Park Convention Center, where Wozniak will be opening up the event with an interactive discussion with the Kansas City VMUG Leaders. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to hear from Wozniak on his experiences working with Apple and more recently, Fusion-io.

This is an all-day VMware User Group Conference, so think of it as a mini one-day VMworld event! A number of vRockstars will be in attendance and it’ll definitely be a great time.  I know a few people will be arriving in town early and there will be a Happy Hour on Monday evening. If you live in the Kansas City area, or will be in the area, this is an event you will not want to miss!

For more details and to register, please visit http://www.vmug.com/KCconference

VMworld 2012 Itinerary

Here we go again! 2012 marks the 9th VMworld Conference (I remember Steve Herrod, then Senior Director of R&D, giving a technical overview of ESX and explaining what a VMM was) which is only 23 days away, but for some the planning started months ago. This is by far the best IT conference on the planet, it all started with a little love for virtualization and has grown by the need for next generation computing. There isn’t one event that captures everything from core infrastructure components and software all the way up the stack through application development and end-user computing devices. One full week filled with education, networking, entertainment and awesome technology!

The networking opportunities have to be the best piece of VMworld, never will you be able to meet with other people as passionate about a single thing as you are. This year I believe we’ll learn a lot more about where the direction of VMware (as a company) is going. Hopefully we’ll be able to put somethings together about their recent acquisitions, DynamicOps and Nicira to name a couple. And perhaps Paul Maritz will put a little more content to why he’ll be joining EMC as their Chief Strategist. This is still all in addition to the great breakout sessions that you’ll find at VMworld, including (shameless plug) INF-VSP1504 – Ask the Expert vBloggers :).

So here is my schedule, full of great sessions, fun networking opportunities, awesome parties and completely slammed from morning to evening….boy I love VMworld! I’ll keep this schedule up to date as I add new events, so please keep this bookmarked! At the bottom of the page I’m going to include some “Interested” sessions and Vendors, these are sessions that I wasn’t able to schedule due to conflict but that I’d still very much like to watch perhaps on-demand after the conference.

If you have an event that your hosting/sponsoring and you’d like it added to my schedule, please let me know!
