With VMworld 2010 right around the corner we’d love to hear what’s on your mind in regards to virtualization and your environment. We in the vSpecialist organization at EMC would love to hear from you, this survey will be completely anonymous and will possibly help shape the future of virtualization.
- What’s your IT infrastructure look like?
- What do you like about it?
- What frustrates you about it?
- What do you think we should be doing that we’re not (EMC, VMware, or heck, the whole IT industry)?
- What are YOU doing that’s cool?

•What’s your IT infrastructure look like?
12 HP blades, 10 of which running esxi
HP Ethernet and Flex-10 Virtual Connect modules
1/2 ESX 3.5 1/2 ESX 4.0
Network – Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls
Windows 2008/2003 AD environment
About 10% Linux
EMC CX3, CX500, and CX700 SANs
•What do you like about it?
Solid for 3 years since we implemented VMware 3.0.1 (now on 3.5 and 4.0).
•What frustrates you about it?
I don’t have as much time to properly analyze and improve the infrastructure as I would like.
•What do you think we should be doing that we’re not (EMC, VMware, or heck, the whole IT industry)?
I would like move “vblock”-type solutions provided, even if it means waiting a month or so to upgrade. I’d rather the vendors do the validation before me when I’m not able to have an identical test environment.
•What are YOU doing that’s cool?
With a very small support staff (mostly me), we’re able to run over 150 virtual servers on 12 blades with multiple vlans, firewalls, redundant switches, and fc fabric with only a couple non-human outages over the past 3 years. I’m going to VMworld for the 2nd time.
